Rebuilding School Program with AHV

Nepal Rises started working on the ground right on the very next day of the April 2015 earthquake in Nepal forming a team of volunteers. Following continued aftershocks, The Government of Nepal declared a state of emergency and requested help from international agencies for support. This is when All Hands Volunteers (a disaster response organization based in the US) came to Nepal on 28th April 2015 for rescue efforts.

In the effort to restore life and communities in some of the affected areas, Nepal Rises and AHV came into partnership from August 2015, 4 months after the initial disaster. It was a way for local empowerment through international support. Since then, till date, Nepal Rises has been legally and physically involved in recovery programs with AHV by building transitional homes for communities of Sindhupalchowk district and school rebuilding programs.

In early 2016, the school reconstruction program was started by committing to rebuild five school infrastructures along with WASH programs in Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk districts. Later in February 2017, 2 more schools were added to the list. It was a way to get kids back to school and build back the walls of education better than it was before. Most of the schools have been completed in early 2017 and some are scheduled to be completed by July 2017.

It is a volunteer-based model of rebuilding alongwith community's involvement. Throughout the time of construction, the community, staff and volunteers have benifitted side by side with numerous community projects such as masonry trainings, english and nepali classes, water catchment systems and many more. The Rebuilding Program has seen an exchange of love and culture for locals and internationals. In the light of the rebuilding, we have seen communities and children getting back stronger than before and both partner organization will be working more to rebuild hope in more of the affected areas even after 2 years following the disaster.
